Bogor voted as ‘Most Lovable City’; Southeast Asian cities dominate We Love Cities Campaign

Bogor City, Indonesia, emerged as this year’s winner of the We Love Cities (WLC) Campaign, the public engagement arm of WWF’s city programme, the Earth Hour City Challenge (EHCC). Bogor won the title of ‘Most Lovable City’ by a landslide number of votes from various social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and from the official website of the campaign (www.welovecities.org).

Bogor’s priority areas include energy efficiency and preservation of its natural resources. Involvement and commitment of the public to the city’s initiatives and efforts are crucial in the effective delivery of actions on these priority areas as well as in achieving the city’s overall sustainability goals. Bogor managed to enjoin its community members in keeping a remarkable number of hashtags (#WeLoveBogor) and votes that reached a total of 153,586. Bogor was joined by fellow Southeast Asian cities from Indonesia and the Philippines as finalists: Balikpapan (32,491 votes), Jakarta (23,610 votes), San Carlos (13,546 votes), and Santa Rosa (8,731). ICLEI is immensely proud of the success of its Members – Bogor, Balikpapan, and Santa Rosa – in the EHCC and WLC campaign.

A total of 125 cities in 21 countries participated in EHCC 2015-16. The We Love Cities Campaign ran from June 19-26, 2016.
