The Bogor Urban LEDS Inside Story, along with other knowledge products, was officially launched by the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) during the recently-concluded 7th Resilient Cities Congress held in Bonn, Germany on July 6 to 8.

Apart from showcasing the publications, CDKN and ICLEI European Secretariat organized a session titled “Public-Private-Community Partnerships for Climate Compatible Development” during the Resilient Cities Congress. Mr. Ranell Martin Dedicatoria, Program Manager of ICLEI Southeast Asia Secretariat, served as one of the panelists. The session focused on how to create an enabling environment for private sector as well as community and citizen-level engagement in climate-compatible development.

As defined by CDKN, ‘climate compatible development’ is development that minimizes the harm caused by climate impacts, while maximizing the many human development opportunities presented by a low emissions, more resilient, future.

CDKN Inside Stories are case studies of recent developing country experiences deriving from the design, planning, and implementation of activities that are geared at fostering more climate-compatible development. The production of the Bogor Inside Story was supported through the CDKN-ICLEI Sub-National Learning Programme on Climate Compatible Development, themed “Moving from Planning to Implementation.”

The Inside Story focused on the city’s experiences under the project, Promoting Low Emission Urban Development Strategies in Emerging Economy Countries (Urban LEDS), zeroing in on its sustainable low-carbon transport plans. Urban LEDS, which ran from 2013 to 2016, is a three-year project funded by the European Union and jointly implemented by UN Habitat and ICLEI. The project aims to enhance the transition to low-emission urban development in emerging economy countries.

Other inside stories published by CDKN focused on the themes of sustainable coastal tourism, urban agriculture, renewable energy, and vulnerability assessment.
